Clean temporary files from your Hard drive
Temporary files system is used to increase the system performance and reduce tenporary data access time. But too much and old system files can reduce the system performance. To remove temporary files
1. Right click on OS installation drive(_=generally the c drive)
2.Select "Disk Cleanup"
3.Select cleanup system files
4. Mark all the check boxes of items list
5.Hit OK
6.And done
You can also open the current user temporary folder by typing "%temp%" in RUN and hitting enter and deleting all the files in the folder.

Defragment your Hard Disks
Storing files on HDD is a comples operation and windows cam store huge files in different parts at runtimes. When the files are too much scattered here and there, the access time gets increased as the computer has top read more distant disk locations to read a file. Defragmentation can put all the file parts to the most possible closest locations.
To defragment your drive
1.Under start menu section type "Defragment"
2.Select "Disk Defragmenter"
3. To defragment all your disks, select the disks with mouse drag
4. If you first want to analyse the fragmentation level, select "Analyse Disks", else select "Defragment Disks' to defragment the disks.

No thumbnails
If you've ever tried to view thumbnail images in a folder with hundreds of images or videos, you have probably faced Windows hangup at that time. Thumbnailing is responsible for this To disable the thumbnailing option
1.open Windows Explorer and click "Organize"
2.Folder Options.
3.Click the View tab and check the box: "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
Uninstall and keep uninstalling
Almost all softwares are installed in C drive- The OS installation drive. All the softwares installed also create some registry entries, thus increasing the registry size. Besides these, useless softwares also slow down the HDD and are reason for defragmentation. Thus to boost the system performance, uninstall almost alll useless softwares, even the small size toolbars.
Try updating your drivers
Computer runs on hardware and all hardware devices have their drivers to create synchronization between the OS and that particular hardware. The HW manufacturers keep providing driver updates. Choosing the latest driver software can surely enhance the overall system performance. These are generally available on manufacturer's website's support section.
Minimize number of startup apps
Several apps are set to start up with windows, only some are useful. reat are useless. These take considerable time when windows start. Disabling start up of useless items can reduce the system boot time.
To disable start up applications
1.Press "Win+r"
2.Type "msconfig.exe"
3. Select "startup" tab
4. Uncheck useless items
5. OK and done
Turn off search indexing
Windows uses search indexing feature to reduce time and facilate the search. But actually indexing puts load on HDD and CPU both, hence slows down the PC. Disabling inexing can help to decrease system load.
To disable indexing
1.Type "services" at the Start menu prompt,
2. Select Services application
3. Scroll down to and right-click "Windows Search"
4. Select Properties.
5.There, change the ‘Startup type' to Disabled, and click OK.
Disable compression on HDD (if enabled in NTFS partitions)
NTFS drives support compression of whole drives. This reduces the files size on the Hard disk by compressing the. This increases the system load as files are being decompressed before they are being opened. You can check whether indexing is disabled or not by Right click on the drive and selecting properties.
Upgrade your power settings:
By default, Windows sets computers with inbuilt batteries (that is, laptops) to the "Balanced" power plan. This setting creates compromise between performance and battery life. Switching to High Performance mode can surely boost your system performance.
This option is hidden by default. To access it,
1. Click the battery icon in the system tray
2.Click on "More power options".
3.Select the drop-down next to Show additional plans and opt for High performance.
Please note, it will turn off options that put your computer to sleep or hibernate, saving you restarting / wake up time whwn your PC was left alone for long time.
Regular Virus Scans
Besides other severe damages, viruses slow down the PC and reduce its performance. I prefer regular virus scan with trusted and reputed security tools. Keep switching between several tools available as none is perfect

Splash screens are the welcome screens that show for while before the application main window loads Splash screens don't slow down your computer in runtime, but they icreaase launch an application. We can turn off splash screens in the programs' preferences or settings. Most of the apps have the option to disable the splash screen.
